You’re looking at your diagnostic report and you’re wondering, “What do all of these words mean? Couldn’t they have just said I had the flu?” Yes, they could have simply documented that. But, when you initially entered the doctor’s office, you explained to the doctor or nurse what was going on with your body. It would have been way too much for the doctor and or nurse to write. Also, with most health care professionals they treat multiple patients in one day. So like with any profession, it comes with its own jargon, so some type of language had to be formed to make documenting of a patient records, billing, symptoms, and diagnosis easier. That is why we have the use of medical terminology, and I’ll explain why.
