In the text, “U.S. Coral Reefs”, it states, “This mutually beneficial relationship helps coral polyps and the algae survive.” Reefs are threatened by a trend in ocean warming that has caused corals to expel algae and turn white, a process called coral bleaching. These coral polyps prevent coral bleaching. The cause of coral bleaching, ocean warming is caused by production of industrial products, the burning of fossil fuels, the fertilization of crops etc. Once again, before scientists do these things that take time and money, us people can help to prevent ocean warming. For an example, we can reduce, reuse, or recycle, less printing and more downloads, and purchase energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs. Climate change, or in other words, ocean change is another way coral reef are affected …show more content…
In the text, “New Coral Reef Research Center Offers Hope for Future”, it states, “Every day, ocean temperatures are rising and people are overfishing.” One example of unpleasant fishing include indiscriminate fishing. This means that use of non-selective gears, like nets and traps, often removes more herbivorous fishes. These fish eat algae and help keep the ecosystem in balance. Nearshore habitats serve as nurseries for many fish. Another example is to catch young fish in nets that remove them before they can help replenish the population. However, in this case, fishing can be something people love. So, to prevent overfishing, you should educate yourself enough so you wouldn’t affect anything in the marine life. Another way is to only take what you need and catch and release fish you don’t need. If you like to fish, be sure you are well educated and you know what you are
