About a five minute walk away from the multiple street performers and artists, crowded streets and bright lights from the multiple screens of New York City’s Times Square, there was another show with bright lights, crowded seats, and outstanding performers. This show was the Broadway Musical, The Lion King, performed in the Minskoff Theatre. Around three years after the Disney animated movie was released, the Lion King was performed for the first time at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota and has been a Broadway hit ever since. It has earned many awards, including six Tony Awards, and it has expanded throughout theatres across the world. The Lion King is a breathtaking musical with an incredible storyline performed with flawless acting and playing from actors and musicians alike. Every line was said with as much emotion as possible and every action was made effortlessly, as if they had done this for all their life. The two kid actors, one for Simba and one for Nala, allowed the show to connect with the younger viewers. The hilarious lines of Zazu, the red-billed hornbill, and the Hyenas fill the entire theatre with laughter. All the characters were some type of animal, making it very difficult to create completely believable and accurate costumes, but despite that, they still made them look amazing. Every detail is thought of and carefully put on the costumes that they wear, making you believe that you are actually in an African Safari watching all the elephants, lions, monkeys and birds walking and flying around.
