If your baby doesn't seem to like swaddling, or is beginning to outgrow it, try leaving one or both of baby's arms free and just swaddle the rest of his body. Either way, the blanket should fit snugly, but not too tightly to cause discomfort or suppress circulation. Newborn babies are used to being snuggled in the womb and they love being wrapped tightly this encourages them to sleep longer.
Beyond 6 weeks, if your baby seems to still like being swaddled you can continue to do so. Just swaddle at nighttime and other nap times keeping baby free during the day when baby is awake in order to explore their growing world. As your baby grows older and you continue swaddling your baby, don't be surprised if you encounter resistance or they wriggle out of the swaddle.
