Every type of athlete should have a sports massage at least once. Many professional athletes have sport massages often throughout their careers. Some may even have them one or more per week.
A sports massage is specifically designed to help athletes. This massage differs from others because it focuses on other aspects of the body. Although, it still does focus on the muscles as well.
The massage may also differ depending on the athlete’s sport. A soccer player may need different treatment than a tennis player will. This massage puts focus onto the parts of the body that are overused and stressed the most. For example, a soccer player would need more focus on their legs, while a tennis player may need some attention to their upper back and shoulders.

How often should an athlete get a sports massage?
It is recommended that an athlete receive a sports massage one to twice a week. This is to make sure the body and mind stays in good health despite being pushed to the limits multiple times per week. After a while, strenuous activity or exercise can put a toll on the body, so it is important to rejuvenate the body as well as the mind to get the body prepared to exercise again.
Especially for those that carry a lot of stress in their lives, that can already put a lot on the individual’s body and heart, but by getting a massage, the body has time to recover.
Stress can also cause problems for the heart. While exercise is good for the heart, it can also work the heart too much. Then, the heart must be rested in order to fully recover.
