Shrimp and Grits Growing up in the South seafood is a staple ingredient in most dishes especially in Louisiana. Seafood like shrimp can be prepared many different ways. Shrimp can be boiled, fried, or even sautéed. No matter how shrimp are prepared they are delicious. Grits are also commonly eaten in the South. Grits is eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The toping they are served with are endless. Some people even add sugar to grit they are very versatile which makes them great for cooking. Today I will be sharing with you the process of making shrimp and cheese grits.
For my shrimp and cheese grits recipe you will need the following for the shrimp: 1 ¼ pounds of shrimp peeled and deveined, 1 cup of yellow onion chopped, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 2 table spoons of unsalted butter, ¼ cup of chicken broth, ½ cup of cooked honey turkey roughly chopped, 1 tablespoon of fresh parsley finely chopped, 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning, 1teaspoon of black pepper, 1 tablespoon of onion powder, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder.
For the grits: 1 cup of uncooked quick-cooking grits, 1 cup of cheddar cheese, 1 cup of chicken broth, 2 cups

When making your grits you can add more or less water depending on the consistency you like. For thicker grits follow the instructions for thinner grits add more water or chicken broth. Remember that shrimp cook quickly and become tough when they are over cooked. The honey turkey can be substituted for honey ham or bacon. If you don’t have chicken broth on hand you can use water or seafood broth for a substitute. To make the shrimp spicier you can add 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper. The green onions and parsley are optional they are mainly used for garnish. The dish can also be prepared without adding cheese to the grits if preferred.
