Maintaining a healthy life with enough nutrition, exercise and rest is the key to staying healthy in all ages. Yet, it is undeniable that the older you are, the easier for your body to get sick no matter how well you take care of yourself. Yes, it is about your immune system. When you are in 20s or 30s, you are not that vulnerable to diseases because your immunity is still in its primary condition. Even if you are exposed to viruses, it is easy for you to recover and activate your immune system so you will not get sick for the second time. The situation is not the same, however, for people who are in their 70s and up. They need to be wary of diseases such as shingles.

What is shingles?

Shingles that is also known as herpes zoster is a painful skin rash caused by the reactivation of chickenpox virus in people who have suffered from the illness. In other words, if you have a history of chickenpox in your life, you are more prone to shingles. The symptoms are similar to chickenpox: painful fluid-filled blisters, burning sensation in the beginning, and sores before healing. The good news is shingles vaccine is available for the people in needs. You can contact your General Practitioner (GP) to get more information about that as well as getting an injection of the vaccine.
