Informative Essay On Pumped Storage

Electricity is made commonly from fossil fuels. But it can be made from many other things called alternate energy resources. We're going to tell you about an alternate energy resource called pumped storage. Pumped storage plants bring in water from a body of water, run it up a hill through tubes to a reservoir during the night. And then it releases the water downhill during the day through a series of tubes that have turbines inside them. When the water turns the turbines, that are connected to a generator that has coil in them, it creates electricity. The fuel used for pumped storage is water. It is safe to harvest and transport because it's just plain old H2O. It's not harmful or explosive. The fuel is not expensive to harvest because if you have a body of water then you put the pumped storage plant by the water and that's it, the water is simply run through tubes and returned to be reused later. There is H2O in all different forms. So if we were to use all liquid water we could still find H2O in the air or frozen. It's just simply hydrogen and oxygen which makes this fuel renewable. …show more content…
Coal is a fossil fuel and fossil fuels are commonly used so the equipment isn't as expensive. The pumped storage process is a safe process because it doesn't involve any dangerous substances. Making large scale electricity this way is kind of 50/50 in efficiency. It takes more electricity to carry water from the lake up to the reservoir than what releasing the water creates. But it can create electricity during the time of highest need. They can store the electricity during off hours and it can be released during peak hours. One bad thing about pumped storages though is that it can't be used anywhere on the earth. For pumped storage you need a large body of water and not a lot of places have access to

This solution is better for many reasons one is that water is a renewable resource and there is an abundance of it in most of the world. Gas and diesel fuels are non-renewable, so they can’t be used again.…

(Opening Paragraph - One) Energy is and has been in a high quality demand for all over the world. Since August (2015) the energy rate for Indiana has gone up 11.46% in the last seven months rapidly. It is a struggle to be able to find safe, cheap, and renewable resources in order to build around Southern Indiana. Using Geothermal, Hydroelectric, and Nuclear Fission Energy would be a useful and affordable source of energy for a town similar to Scottsburg because all of theses resources have a cheap and faster way to meet the requirements to energy demand. Coal is one of the primary energy sources in the United States. The US Energy Information Agency reported in 2009 that coal counts for 23% of the total energy use in the US. However coals is a finite resource, harmful to the environment and also affects human lives. Scientists predict that supply of coal will deplete in a century and the use of coal is harmful to the environment in that the mining of coal degrades land, it pollutes air, causes heating of lakes and rivers, and causes health issues for workers working in coal plants. Americans must find a new resource to replace coal; American find a resouce that not only is renwable but one that is eco-friendly.…

Energy is the power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines. Energy is all around us and can be created from many things such as oil, natural gas, coal, wood, water, wind, and petroleum. Most industrial nations use fossil fuels, which are natural fuels formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms such as coal, natural gas and oil to be driving force that powers their modern industrial societies. These fuels are unable to be recreated, so the rate of consumption of these resources is at a staggeringly high rate. Non-renewable resources are finite, which means one we use them they are gone, and renewable resource are ones that are renewed by…
