Informative Essay On Pope Francis

Professor Steve and Professor Katherine made many good points on Pope Francis in life today. The world is changing and so is society, so the way that the Pope is looked at is altered as well. The two professors make great points on how Pope Francis is modifying the Catholic point of view on the world and promoting unification of religions. I believe that the Pope is one of the best I will ever see in my life. Francis is a Jesuit, which is extremely rare given that Jesuits are bound by oath not to take positions of authority. He is bringing up vital issues that have been ignored in the past. Professor Steve speaks about the danger of reducing the Pope to a personality and treating him like a celebrity. I agree with this statement. The Pope should definitely be admired and respected by the community, but when he is seen as a famous person, it can threaten his legitimacy. I believe that Pope Francis isn’t trying to make people think of him as a celbrity on purpose, it is his personality. For example, he speaks on personal categories rather than legal categories and some may mistake this as a personal relationship, when it is a way to all learn together as persons. Her main focus was on how Pope Francis promotes interreligious dialogue. This interreligious dialogue is something that I believe can further not only the Catholic community, but the entire world. Pope Francis has displayed through prayer meetings, speeches, and blessings that he wants to eliminate the existing boarders of religions. I think that interreligious dialogue is one of the best changes that the world can make. The amount of lives lost from wars, genocide, and individual conflicts over religion goes against what these religions are teaching.
