The pitbull is a crossbreed of a bulldog and a terrier. There were two reasons or breeding the pitbull: they were bred to hunt, or they were bred to kill. In the time of Julius Caesar the Romans fought all rivals with dogs by their sides. These dogs were later identified as bulldog and terrier mixes: the pitbull. Pitbulls were bred in a way to kill because of what the Romans did. That doesn’t explain why they are still aggressive to this day. Romans raised them to be killers. According to Bastian, “bull-baiting was banned in the 19th century, so dog fighting became popular as an underground and a quasi illegal activity” (Cesarsway).
