Informative Essay On Muscle Cars

Improved Essays
When you think of muscle cars what comes to your mind? In my mind Chevrolets, Plymouths, and Ford and Dodges of the late sixties and early seventies mostly come to mind. Many countries have made muscle cars and they have all failed to rival the American title as the muscle car capitol of the world. This is because America was obsessed with being a country of speed and in many ways till is that same way. Before companies cracked down on performance and safety regulations in the mid 70s companies like Plymoth would do crazy things to reduce weight on their cars this included drilling softball sized holes in the frame just to get better speeds. A lot of people seem to like the late sixties and early seventies camaros. This is because they are …show more content…
This is a class of cars that is just below a muscle car performance wise. A couple of examples would be things similar to the Firebird and the most well know pony car would be the Ford Mustang. Most people think that this is a muscle car. In the mustang cobra jet was a 428ci v8. Helping make that power was a functional hood scoop, ram air induction and larger head valves than most other mustangs. Ford rated it as having 335 horsepower when it truly made around 410. If they labeled them with less horsepower than they actually made Ford could still consider them a pony car. If they didn't this there was less competition in the pony car market and more average people, not just performance people, would be willing to buy them(topspeed). Ford has continued on with the mustang name one of which would be the Boss 302. It Makes 444 horsepower and 380 pound feet of torque. This is courtesy of Ford's 5.0 liter 302 cubic inches v8. This motor was Ford's beloved v8 and went in a lot of vehicles. It also can run a quarter mile in just 12.3 seconds and a 0 to 60 time in 4 seconds. With performance numbers like that it has in almost every way surpassed its pony car years and formed into a full fledged muscle car. Although you won't be able to purchase a new Boss 302, because of ford discontinuing the 302, the Gt350 that makes 526 horsepower will be a replacement that proves to be better than the old form

The Hellcat “belts out a staggering 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque and a base price of just $60,990,” simplifying into just “$86.27 per horse” (Calabi). Through the simplification of this statistic, the writer is able to communicate with the average person and reveal the horsepower and torque capable by the new Challenger comes at a reasonable price. Secondly, the power of the Hellcat is intensified as “Dodge created the most powerful muscle car ever… with front rotors the size of large pizzas… [and] a clutch pedal evidently lifted from a leg-press machine at the gym” (Calabi). Calabi is able to relate the standard features engineered by Dodge to common day items that a person would come in contact with. By relating the rotors to pizza, and the clutch to a-leg press machine, the car is given a masculine connotation, showing its immense power.…

Ford and Chevrolet are arguably the top two American car companies in the world. I think that Ford Mustangs are a whole lot better than Chevy Camaros because my whole family drives Fords. I grew up with my dad having a Ford F250, and my mom drove a Ford Escape. Even my grandma and grandpas drive Fords and that’s why I got a Ford Mustang for my first car. Mustangs and Camaros have many differences between them that set them apart, like Mustangs have a faster 0-60 time, and better braking.…

One thing that surprised me about the car was that the car tires were filled with nitrogen gas instead of compressed air. Nitrogen is a colorless and odorless non-toxic gas used to reduce the temperature of the tire and increase its lifespan. In races, it may be able to keep tire pressure more constant and slow pressure loss without reacting to the tire and rim materials. Another thing that surprised me about the car was its design and build. What really caught my eye was that the inside of the body shell of the car.…

In the mid-1900’s America’s domestic car companies felt little to no threat by its non-domestic competitors. This began to change in the 1960’s when an influx of affordable, yet quality cars made by foreign companies, gained popularity on American soil. In hopes of regaining dominance as the top automobile provider, Ford Motor Company vouched to create a car that was affordable to all Americans, a model later named the Ford Pinto. Although affordable, costing a small $2,000, the Pinto held many manufacturing flaws, and in the end proved to be a dangerous and even deadly car for the American consumer.…
