Michael Jackson Michael Jackson is one of the most famous musicians of all time. He has broken records, toured worldwide, and recorded several number one albums. Born to a large, poor family, he made it to earn the title “The King of Pop”. Though he is so well-known for his music, he has done several acts of charity which go unrecognized; he has definitely impacted the world in a positive way. Michael Jackson influenced not only America, but countries all over the world, by donating much of his wealth to charitable causes. One example of this is the song “Heal the World.” In this song, he sings about making the world a better place, especially for the children. His Heal the World Foundation is named after this song. “Man in the Mirror” is another song that emphasizes the strife for a better world. This song is about the hungry and the homeless; it encourages one to take initiative and change their ways to help the disadvantaged. The music video is motivational in that it is very discouraging to violence. The video includes footage of hungry, homeless Africans as well as Martin Luther King Jr., the Holocaust, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The earnings from this song went to Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times which is designed to aid children who are cancer patients. “We are the World” is a song he co-wrote. Thirty seven of the most famous music artists sang in this song, including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, and Stevie Wonder. His ranch was called Neverland and had its own amusement park and zoo and would often open it up to underprivileged children. In 1989, he invited 200 children from St. Vincent Institute for Handicapped Children and Big Brothers and Big Sisters to Neverland Ranch. In 1990, he invited 82 children who were neglected as well as abused there and in the same year invited 130 children from a YMCA summer program. Many times the children would not leave empty handed. Michael even shared his song “Beat It” with an anti-drunk driving campaign for a commercial. He received a Special Achievement Award from the president at the time, Ronald Reagan. He would reserve seats for disadvantaged kids at his shows and would many times allow them to meet him backstage. “At every concert stop on the tour, he set aside a portion of tickets for underprivileged youngsters who otherwise would have been unable to attend his shows,” (Taraborelli 389). Some examples are that four thousand tickets from one of his concerts in England were donated in 1988 to ITV Telethon which raised 200,000 pounds for a children’s hospital. During his “Bad” tour in 1989, underprivileged children received tickets and most joined Michael backstage and took pictures with him. Hospitals such as the
