I remember being 4 year old , trying to hide my grandfather’s cigarettes because I knew they were bad for him. I would throw them out the window, bury them in the yard, and tell him that he shouldn’t be using them however everything I did was to no avail. He was eventually diagnosed with lung cancer in 2010 at 60 years old. My whole family felt the pain. Even though he passed away August 2014, he spent his time fighting and I am so grateful that I had those last few years with him even though they were short, thanks research and dedication of the doctors and scientists. If I were to become a scientific researcher, I would study oncology. I have seen how cancer affects someone first hand and I don’t ever want to feel helpless like I did with my grandfather. I wouldn’t give up unless I see true results. For instance, Dr. Judah Folkman hypothesized there was a chemical in the tumors that cause angiogenesis and that caused tumors to grow immensely, but he had to find the chemical that caused this to gain trust and acceptance in the science community. He tried every different chemical he could find by placing the chemical in the cornea and seeing if the blood vessels would grow. He tested dozens until he found the right one. He did not give up after the many failures but continued to persevere like I would in my research, he had passion as do
