On October 4, 2015, I had the pleasant opportunity to interview Littzie Fernandez, one of my fellow colleagues who also attend Indian River State College. Mrs. Fernandez is a 35-year-old female from Honduras. Littzie was born in Honduras and came to America when she was a young child. Our Independence Day is September 15th and it’s a huge holiday for everyone. It’s a three day holiday where virtually everything is closed and there are several events celebrated. The street parade is one of the major events. During this event, there are a lot of different things on display, such as, school bands, people dressed in costumes, a variety of animals paraded down the streets, and many different kind of floats. People set up places where you can purchase a variety of Honduran food to eat. Many people celebrate by playing different types of marimba music on the streets and the children perform, which is another large event. We do not have fireworks, but our military has events that include an Air Show. Our country does not go to the beach nor do we have cookouts like Americans do on their Independence Day. However, we celebrate the United States’ Independence Day like many Americans. We take our children to the fireworks show, buy them fireworks and cook out with family &

To a point that now, people look of it as a day to get drunk and wear red, white, and blue. Frederick Marryat remarks, “Well, the American’s may have great reason to be proud of this day, and of the deeds of the forefathers, but why do they get so confoundedly drunk?” (Source 5).
