On January 13, 2016 I was asked to write about the group I was in, group 6. Group 6 consists of James, Brian, Spencer, and Tyler. The most diverse, but interesting group I have been in. The first person in group six is Brian. Brian is an enjoyable, cheerful fellow with many hobbies. Brian, like most people, enjoys playing videogames, and considers this one of his many hobbies, however, he also likes music, and has learned to play the trumpet as well. Brian has many accomplishments he is proud of too. He has successfully graduated high school and enrolled into college, he even has three completed semesters under his belt as well! Even though Brian has had a fun and successful life so far, he has set up goals for himself. Brian wants to graduate …show more content…
James is a quiet person in general, but he enjoys reading, and playing the card game magic the gathering. He considers these his hobbies. Aside from these hobbies James does other things as well, and has proud accomplishments. A few things he is proud of is, for one, he has earned a black belt from taekwondo, and he has also graduated from high school. But James isn’t finished yet, he has goals. James wants to graduate from a four year university, and become either a general for the military, or a congressman. Tyler is the third in our group. Tyler is a sporty kind of guy, he loves to play basketball and football as his hobbies, but still has time to play video games as another hobby. Tyler is proud in himself, as well he should be, he also graduated high school. Tyler has some interesting goals as well, fun ones too. Tyler wants to graduate college and become a meteorologist. Along with becoming a meteorologist, Tyler wants to one day be able to chase down a tornado. Last but not least, the fourth person in our group is Spencer. Spencer loves the outdoors. Spencer’s hobbies include going outside to go hunting, go fishing, or just to be outside. Spencer is also proud that he graduated high school and made it to college. He has now set new goals for himself, such as wanting to graduate from college, and be happy with a decent paying job in the

Outliers, defined by Malcolm Gladwell are people who “do not fit into our normal understanding of achievement.” Gladwell discusses how success is not achieved through self-efforts, but rather because of hidden advantages; circumstances, opportunity, education, family, community, and the readiness for diligence. Gladwell has known people who are “smart, ambitious and not rich.” His point throughout this book is that many circumstances throughout an individual's life will have some bearing on who becomes successful. It is just not a fixed set of rules and riches.…

According to Irving Janes (1972), groupthink occurs when a group makes an irrational decision because of group pressure fostering and the deterioration of ‘mental efficiency, reality testing, and moral judgement” (Irving, Janis, Victims of groupthink, p.9). Social influence is the effect that people have upon the beliefs or behaviors of others (Aaronson, 2004). Both groupthink and social influence theory have a factor in what we see as an ongoing reaction to the silent protest started by Colin Kaepernick in August 2016. In recent news on October 1, 2017 during a game between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers, about 30 of the 49ers players took a knee during the national anthem.…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…
