Over the years people have been reading the amazingly, mysterious and creative works of Edgar Allan Poe. Many people have read him in their english classes around the world. I initialy read some of his works on my own, but have learned more about who he is as a writer in my English curriculum.I later got more into his work when I saw a play that my mother took me to. It was confusing which then made me want to understand. I only really ever have known his work and I feel that is only what most people know about him. So the question is; who is Edgar Allan Poe?
Edgar Allan Poe came into this world on the date of January 19th 1809 in Boston Massachusetts. Poe was the second son born to David and Elizabeth Arnold Poe, who were both active theatrical performers. After almost 3 years after his birth his mother died on December 1811, after giving birth to a little girl. She then fell ill from a fever and died in Richmond Virginia at the age of 24. Poe became the foster son of John Allen, a tobacco merchant, who was able to provide for Poe. Poe was able to go to the best schools, he was enrolled in many private academies as a teenager for the Allans had moved several times. …show more content…
He was also into sports, such as a boxing and swimming. On February 1826 he Attended the University of Virginia. Poe ended up leaving after only a few months Because of money problems that he blamed on his father. He blamed his father for sending him with not enough funds to buy necessary thing and pay for school. Which then forced him to borrow money. He later would return to The University of Virginia to finish off his first and only year of college. Before leaving Richmond he had become engaged to a girl named Elmira Royster. Because of how young they were her father disapproved of their engagement. He also intervened with Poe’s letters to his daughter which resulted in no response from
