Barbara Streisand is an American, songwriter, singer, actress, and filmmaker.. Barbara Joan Streisand AKA “Barbara Streisand” was born April 24th, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York the 2nd child to Jewish parents Diana and Emanuel Streisand. Her mother was a school secretary and her father was a teacher at the same exact High School where they first met. In August 1943 only a little bit after her 1st birthday her father died of multiple complications from an epileptic seizure at the age of 34. The seizures were from the results of an untreated head injury he received while playing sports in college. Her mother worked a low paying job as a bookkeeper, because of her father passing away the Streisand family fell into near poverty.

In the summer of 1957 she got her first on stage experience at the Playhouse in Maleden Bridge, New York. In her sophomore year, she got a night job at Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich village helping backstage. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and moved to New York looking for acting parts. It did not come easy, at age 16 she had not grown into her figure so she couldn’t get any serious parts and soon could not afford to have her own, and started living with different friends. Her mother heard how she was living and asked her to come home, but Barbara only took this as more reason to keep trying harder. Her desires were strengthened by wanting to prove her mother wrong.
In early 1960, she took a job as an usher at Fontanne Theater for The Sound of Music, while working she heard her boss talking about auditions for singing parts in the play. This was the 1st time she sang for a job. Although she was told she wasn’t right for the part, her boss encouraged her to sing more when looking for work. This made Streisand start to seriously think about a singing career. She soon competed in a talent contest in Greenwhich Village where she performed two songs to a stunned audience and won. Barbara was soon asked to audition at the Bon Soir nightclub where she made 125 dollars a
