Global climate change is an issue that is accelerating quickly and can become very dangerous if not taken care of soon. Climate change is a reality, and an imminent threat that is approaching more quickly than people realize. There are many people on Earth that believe that climate change is a hoax, but they do not look at the facts that prove that it is happening. When it comes to global climate change, there are some physical changes that can be seen to prove that climate change is a reality.
Global climate change is a reality because carbon dioxide levels are on the rise. According to Mulvaney, who is the founder of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, over the past 650,000 years, atmospheric concentrations are between 180-300 ppm. In the years immediately prior to the Industrial Revolution, there were about 280 ppm. Since then, the number has been rising steadily, and is closing in on 400 ppm in our atmosphere. A majority of the effects of global climate change impact water. According to NASA, In the past century, the sea level has risen 17 centimeters. This can be attributed to many different things. One could be that the increase in temperature is leading to the melting of polar ice caps, glaciers, and is breaking up ice sheets. All of these things are a cause of the increase in sea level. Another reason that the height of the sea is increasing is that the temperature of the seas have increased. The oceans are warming to a depth of 3000 meters. The oceans currently absorb about 80% of the heat added to the climate system by global warming (Chiras). As the temperature of the water increases, it expands.
