FIELDWORK TOPIC #3: SIERRA BENTLEY, CHRISTMAS

Who: Sierra Bentley, age 20, is one of the 4 siblings (2 siblings were added on later) who grew up in a tight knit and close Nazarene (a very conservative type of Christianity) denomination family. As far back as she can remember she knew that Christmas and traditions her family did during that time period was really important to them.

What: Christmas traditions that give back to the community.
Sierra thinks that for Christians everywhere, Christmas is the most important time of the year. To her Christmas represents a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, being close to family and reminder to give back to the society. “This is my favorite part of the year and like you’re just giving back to the community by making someone happy and even the smallest things are just something nice and even if times are tough everyone during this time of year still seems to come together to help each other…I want to make to make a difference in people’s life and even if it is as small as giving someone a meal to eat for the day/ paying for gas.” According to Sierra, in addition to giving back to the community, Christmas is all about spending time with family and Christmas time is family time and for her to stay connected with her family.
