The safety of caffeine has been studied for years with all signs with even the FDA saying that it was safe for people of all ages (Heckman, 2010). In fact, moderate caffeine use has been shown to help fight against the DNA damage from the suns UV rays and potentially could be seen as a dietary supplement before long (Hakim and others 2000, Ballard and others 2006). The only times caffeine has been harmful to the human body is when taken in large doses which are usually in the form of medication or high concentration supplement. The one down side to this crash many experience after the effects of caffeine have taken place, and that is due to the fact that caffeine accelerates energy production. Since caffeine helps the body produce compounds like adrenaline this allows sugars to flood the body and help cells produce more ATP which allows for muscles to work more and for the heart to pump blood faster to other extremities. When the crash comes in is when the effect of caffeine wears off and your body now needs to rest after being at such high production levels.
