The career planning course has benefited my concern for the future adult world. I applied the course content to a practical application. I conducted an informational interview with my uncle. His name is Milton Calima, MD. Calima is my mother’s maiden name, and through the Filipino tradition; it is actually my middle name. He received his medical degree from Far Eastern University in the Philippines. Prior coming to the United States, attended the University of Pennsylvania to pass his boards to obtain his American certification. He’s a physiatrist in Pikeville, Kentucky and has his own practice. My responsibilities include being a caregiver to the recovering patients, handling medical information, performing physical exercises to promote healing, assisting feeding and bathing and lastly; performing injections for bloodwork and probable medicines. Furthermore, I learned about the average salary of a physical rehabilitation nurse. $60,000 a year sounds extremely appealing, but perhaps other clinics and/or hospitals pay even more? During the informational interview, when offered the salary that can be easily comparable at other locations that an individual also applied to; it’s important to still express your devotion into landing the job at the current interview. Beforehand, I knew that physical rehabilitation nurses in the state of New York make roughly about $70,000, which totals to a $10,000 difference. Personally I enjoyed speaking to a certified physician, and am fortunate enough to have been given the knowledge through my Uncle.
