Information Technology (IT) has become an integral part of most global industries. It has been recognized as a tool that gives easy access to information and helps in improving operational efficiency and transparency.
In the year 2004, the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee in the United States issued its report, which focused mainly on how to resolve the problems of healthcare delivery in the US by incorporating information technology into healthcare.

The transiting from the old paper based information system to a new information system that provides a high quality care for patients has proven to be difficult, for that reason, incorporating IT into healthcare have been mostly centered on administrative and financial transactions rather than delivery.
However, the implementation of IT in healthcare is in essence a way to underline the gaps in the literature, to create an understanding, and to know its effect or impact on cost, quality, and efficiency. This paper seeks to examine the nature and background of technology in the healthcare system of the US, and assess the healthcare networks of the past and healthcare delivery integrated delivery systems of today.
