Information revolution encompasses the central resources of production in addition to how information and knowledge can be exploited in order contribute to sustaining a competitive advantage (Coulter, 2013, p. 35). Innovation not only directly influences an organization but also is vital to an organizations sustainable competitive advantage. Through the use of information revolution, Hooker furniture has recognized, formed and than made strategic decisions accordingly, that have directly impacted their ability to succeed and compete in an industry that is highly competitive. This strategic shift puts more marketing dollars into the channels consumers overwhelming prefer and gives Hooker many more impressions at lower costs per impression. Although Hooker Furniture was incorporated in 1924 in Virginia, as of 1988 the company made the shift to source products from foreign manufacturers. China and Vietnam being the primary sources of imported goods. (Building Momentum, 2015, p. 4-5).
Creativity and innovation capabilities: i2i Idea. This system itself acts as a foundation to embrace creativity and simulate innovative capabilities within the organization. As stated in the case, “i2i, idea to innovate, is a company-wide program to encourage innovative thinking at all levels of the company and develop those ideas through collaboration, feedback, resources and guidance.” Although not every idea is implemented many are or at the very least “serve as a launch pad for other ideas” (Building Momentum, 2015).
