Living In Beautiful Hawaii

Aloha, I 'm Summer a lifestyle & beauty blogger living in beautiful Hawaii. I am thrilled that you have visited my blog. Welcome! Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
FAITH & FAMILY
I 've been walking with Jesus for 30+ years. I was born in California in the late 1970 's. I have been blessed with a dad and mom who both love the Lord. They were both influenced by the Jesus People movement. They taught my brother and me all about Jesus from our earliest years. My dad enlisted in the Air Force, to provide for our little family. When I was around six years old, I accepted Jesus into my life. The Air Force kept us in California, until I was seven. Then, we were stationed at Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas, Nevada for 8 years. After that,

I started telling stories at a young age. My dad would encourage me, by asking “And then what?”, when it seemed I was approaching the end of a story. This would ignite my imagination and lengthen my storytelling. In addition, my grandfather was a well-respected journalist in San Diego, California. I remember his office desk with his typewriter buried under papers and newspaper clippings, when I was growing up and would visit my grandparent’s house by the beach. He inspired me in many different ways, but mostly as a writer. He was an atheist for most of his life, but he came to know Christ in his later years. He went home to be with the Lord in 2010.
In recent years, I have written several stories and completed a couple of short plays. I am currently working on a handful of other writing projects. I started this blog in October 2015 because it was an assignment for a class that I was taking. At the end of the semester, I decided that I wanted to keep the blog because I was enjoying it so much.
I hope that this lifestyle & beauty blog will be an encouragement for women who share my love for life, beauty products, books & most importantly, Jesus. I pray that God will use this blog to encourage all women to enjoy being feminine and beautiful without becoming conceited; also, to inspire friendship and community. If you do not know Jesus, I would be thrilled to talk to you about Him. Send me a message or comment below and I will joyfully

I was lying asleep on a cot at 6AM when suddenly a “cabin” of four children were jumping all over me, excited to start yet another day at Camp Dragonfly Forest. I have had the best job in the world for the previous two summers, working at a nonprofit camp for kids with specific medical needs. Every week is something different, ranging from developmental disorders like 22Q chromosomal disorder and autism, to physical disorders like persistent asthma, sickle cell anemia, and hemophilia. Camp Dragonfly Forest levels the playing field for these kids and gives them the opportunity to have the same camp experience as “normal” children that they cannot have elsewhere. So for six weeks for the past two summers, I have been the goofiest, most energetic, oversized child for the sake of getting kids to feel comfortable away from home.…

Literature unites everything that I find exhilarating about life, most of my free time is 2 taken up with reading and creating my own stories which I share with friends and family. To 3 me, Literature and the written word are humankind's greatest accomplishment, which is why I am 4 determined to devote my life to its study. I am not content with simply reading a text, as I 5 have a hunger to learn everything I can about what I read - how it was written; why it was 6 written; what is its place in Literature as a whole. 7 In the words of Jane Yolen, "Literature is a textually transmitted disease, normally 8 contracted in childhood.…

They say that the 90’s didn’t truly end until 2004. I am a huge proponent of that theory, since that would make me one of the cool, hip “90’s kids.” I grew up on old-school Spongebob, classic Disney Channel series like Phil of the Future and Lizzie McGuire, and lots and lots of Barbie PC games. When Hannah Montana ended in 2010, so did my childhood. And when that period of observation and absorption ended, my creative work began.…

My History As A Writer Throughout my lifetime I have come to love and absolutely hate writing. The reasoning of the assignment or topic has a lot to do with my affinity and disgust. .As I continue along this journey of life there are many things that have shaped my faith and allowed me to create my own Christian philosophy of storytelling. The three major points that have developed me into who I am are the background that has got me to where I am today, the most important things in my life that can help the world in ways, and the way people need to stay connected and be able to forgive others no matter what the situation might be. I hope that other people can start to develop a philosophy about faith and storytelling that is similar.…
