Raised in a multicultural household, I was shown a newspaper article on the Million Man March, Civil Rights Movement. In it was a photo of my mother, a German woman standing among African Americans, joining their crusade for equality. Her motivational story of overcoming negative social influences drives me to make a positive impact via research on influential factors, race and working memory in Applied Cognitive Psychology at, Claremont Graduate University. Claremont's academic program e.g., Transcdisciplinary Coursework, Oral Examination etc., is tailored for my academic interests and background. Elaborating, nurturing my interdisciplinary and theoretical curiosity alongside Dr. Ananth, an Analytic Philosopher, I participated in a Proseminar on Meme Theory. Utilizing the research I conducted on learning and motivation and, bridging the gap of communication by observing that she could read lips, I provided motivational feedback about how that was an impressive psychological skill, in and of itself. Later joining the Student Government Association to reach out to the school and community, I participated in the design and presentation of a seminar for underrepresented students. My colleagues and I explained the benefits and means by which they could attend college. Seeing the look of astonishment on their faces as they discovered how college is an attainable goal, was an amazing experience. Teaching learners at an autism clinic, I've become acquainted with applied methods. This has allowed me to break down cultural barriers with a young patient who was being taught racial slurs by a trusted adult. Implementing strategies to help this person learn appropriate behaviors has been especially satisfying, witnessing the positive impact Psychology can
