The general area of reading problems are classified into several components according to Jennings, Lerner and Caldwell (2014). Emergent literacy, word recognition accuracy, reading fluency, comprehension and language and meaning vocabulary (pg. 95-96). I think the major problems in reading may occur in decoding, comprehension, and retention. Children who are diagnosed with learning difficulties have a primary problem with reading and related language skills. Through my readings and class discussion, I have learned that reading difficulties are neurodevelopmental in nature. These neurodevelopmental problems don't go away, but they do not mean that a student, regardless of age, cannot learn or progress in school and life.
