Law enforcement officers are placed with the responsibility to either disregard the law understand circumstances or enforce the law to the fullest extent by arresting someone. They have the power to either prosecute the defendant to the fullest extent or plea bargain with the defendant to cooperate with the state. No doubt there is disapproval regarding informal decision-making in the criminal justice system for the reason that there is a suspicion of corruption. For a while, certain members of society have felt that law enforcement officers have abused their power in making informal decision-making. It was emphasized in 2016 pertaining to Caucasian police officers targeting the African-American community by using excessive physical force and weaponry as their first response to resolve issues. Meanwhile, Caucasian police officers would have a different approach towards a suspect of the same race to handle a dispute. In my opinion, I do believe there has been a mismanagement of informal discretionary decision-making and needs to be reduced because officials in power appear to benefit a select few instead of the majority.
