Every year, the common influenza immunization negatively affects millions of people. Whether they are affected by only the minor or sometimes major symptoms, people battle the always-evolving illness. Luckily, researchers have created life-saving immunization that has the potential to protect many people from the negative side effects of the influenza. The influenza, also known as the flu, “is a transmittable respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses” (CDC 2016). Symptoms can range from mild to severe depending on the strain of Influenza and can sometimes result in hospitalization or sometimes even death (CDC, 2016). The influenza also affects people differently sometimes depending on age, such as older people or children, and certain health conditions (CDC, 2016). Although there are many negative side effects of the influenza, there is also a way to prevent it. People have the option to receive the seasonal influenza immunization once a year. Receiving an influenza vaccine, or flu shot, has many benefits. The flu vaccine causes the body to create antibodies shortly after receiving the vaccine that protects the body against the influenza (CDC, 2016).
