In their generation, money was difficult to get. Often, some had to strive for just a quarter. Life was stressful for more than others, depending on what business was worked. Walter is a chauffeur, meaning that more than likely he will be making a decent yearly wage, but not enough to be considered, “Rich”. The only time people seem to get enough money, is when somebody in the family passes away. Which is what happened exactly to the younger family. To the pros of Walter, he’s making sure that his family doesn’t regretfully throw all their money away. And Lena, is making sure that her children stay on the right track, and stay positive. Even though the two seem to cause conflict by worrying so much over the money. They’re the key to the play, for, they’re known as, “Main characters”, giving them access to cause rising action, climax, falling action, and exposition. As a result, both Mama, and Walter, have the most significant impact onto the play due to their neediness of wanting use of the insurance check differently. In the interest of, the impact and commotion the two characters have created, causes a conflict with everyone who belongs to the family name, in view of the money. But if it weren’t for the two, there’d be not one story to tell about the family, due to the play being revolved around the two characters.
