CHILDHOOD AND FAMILY
Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. He was the son of Jack and Nelle Reagan and the younger brother of Neil Reagan. During Ronald’s childhood, his father drank often, and their income soon became unsteady. On the other hand, Jack was adamantly against racism and religious intolerance. He was also a supporter of the Democratic party. Meanwhile, Nelle attempted to involve both of her sons in her church’s activities such as religious plays and readings (Brands 12). Ronald greatly enjoyed speaking to an audience and discovered his passion for acting as a result of his mother’s encouragement. Additionally, she influenced Reagan to strive for success (Brands 12). Ronald Reagan’s experience with radio broadcasting and acting, and his work with the General Electric Corporation allowed for the honing of his already exceptional public speaking skills, and helped distinguish him as a conservative spokesperson (PBS). Both of these factors were advantageous in gaining recognition as a presidential candidate. In addition, the number of films he participated in made him familiar to the general public. On the other hand, the chaotic hysteria induced by American fears of Communism during the Cold War and Reagan’s involvement in eradicating Communist ideals from society aided in shaping the political views with which he began his governmental career (PBS).
Post-Presidency. In view of the fact that Ronald Reagan was diagnosed with Alzheimer 's Disease in 1994 just five years after the end of his presidency, he was unable to do much in terms of a post-presidential career. However, he managed to supervise the creation of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. After the shocking and disheartening diagnosis, Reagan devoted most of his efforts to spread awareness and to support research for the disease until his death on June 5, 2004

Historians Philip Jenkins and Matthew Dallek offer differing views on the achievements completed during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. While both historians do not seem to have liked president Ronald Reagan much, they base their suggestions about his presidency’s results on at least partially historically defensible claims. Although I understand why both historians said what they did based on historical facts from Reagan’s presidency, I find myself agreeing with Philip Jenkins’s statement of Ronald Reagan from 2008. Due to events such as the Iranian Hostage Crisis, the anti-government trust statements he made, and his tax reduction plan, I agree with Philip Jenkins that president Reagan was joining a revolution which was already in progress and only gave form and direction to…

A new conservatism rose to prominence in the United States between 1960 and 1989 because of growing distrust of the liberal government, new free-market solutions to the problem of widespread disappointment in liberal actions, and a decrease in proper ethics and morals. During this time period, presidential candidates pushed towards a more conservative point of view as the masses changed the ideals of living in America. As the social and economic standpoint of America as a world power grew, the American people needed to adjust their way of living. Starting with President John Kennedy as a republican president and ending this period of time with Ronald Reagan, a conservative president, the presidential shift represents the social, economic, and…
