How development can affect one another and be interconnected.
Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. All areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected. Children learn from everything they do; skills are developed in day-to-day activities and achievements. While children will need to be taught new skills, these should always be balanced by opportunities for them to independently apply.
For example; if a child has a physical achievement (such as: winning a race at school or scoring a goal in football) this can the boost a child’s self-esteem. When self-esteem is boosted it will have a positive effect on their emotional wellbeing. Self-esteem can have effect on said child’s social development

Background; environment; health and disability.
Environment: Can effect development negatively if family situations are strained, dysfunctional or disrupted. For example, if parent(s) argue or physically fight in front the child will disrupt emotional development from feeling unsettled. This could also effect speech development and also social development and children may be withdrawn. Socioecomics can effect both positively and negatively on children.
Background:
Wealthier families with two parents can afford to take to different clubs and classes and their children will have an advantage developing at a quicker or higher rate. For example; if one child aged 2 does not attend nursery or any classes and another child attends nursery 3 days a week, swimming and rhyme time. The second child would have an advantage as they would be mixing with more children at each club; this would boost their social development having interactions with other children and adults. The child would also make healthy emotional connections with the people they bond with during their time at nursery. Physically swimming will help muscle development and gross motor skills. A child may be born with a sight or hearing impairment which affects most areas of the child’s development. If a child is unable to see, they may not have had the opportunity to join in with physical activities, such as running or football, therefore they may be lacking in this area. If a child is deaf, they may not be able to communicate accurately to other people so will have little social skills. Adaptations can be made to make this impact less.
How can you monitor child development?
There are different ways in which practitioners are able to monitor children’s development. These are usually formative methods of assessments. Summative assessments are used as the child moves into schools; for example, SATs and GCSE’s.
Observations play a vital part in monitoring children’s development and can be used in a variety of ways. Learning Journals are kept for each child and contain that child’s. Learning journals are completed on a monthly basis and continue through the setting as the child moves room.
