Influences In Dead Poet Society

Influence is the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behaviour of someone. Most of us are influenced by people or situations we grew up with. We could be influenced by the characters in our favourite television shows, the heroes in the books, or our beloved family members and friends. They are called our role models because we are inspired to keep living on until we achieve our goals. However, we could be influenced by immoral and unfortunate situations. The movie, "Dead Poet Society", directed by Peter Weir, demonstrates influence of the role models as a theme.

The film demonstrates the influences John Keating has on the lives of his students in English class. He is an English teacher with a passion for poetry. He tells them to rip pages out of the books to be able to think for themselves. He also encourages them to find their true selves and to live life to the fullest while they are still young. Perry is also demonstrated the influence he has on his son, Neil Perry. His father has many expectations of him. For example, he expects him to focus on his studies in Welton Academy in order to be a doctor. One day, Neil's dream comes true when he is assigned to act in the "A Midsummer Night's Dream". However, his father tells Neil to quit the drama club. In this case, he becomes a sneaky child as he decides to perform without his father's permission. After the performance, his father throws his rage toward Neil in which he shows no acceptance to his son's true identity. Neil lacks his courage to fight against his father as he chooses to end his life. On the other hand, my parents have high expectations of me and my siblings but I can tell our happiness is top priority for them. Unlike Mr. Perry, my parents support me no matter what I do even though I have been in difficult
