Social media is found everywhere in the world now days and has shaped society. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest are only a few examples. The amount of social media users on eight social media sites is over six million (Statista.com November, 2015), making social media a widely used source of communication. What impact social media has on societies all across the globe is major and varies between users. Social media impacts people in good and bad ways. Communication to family around the country is a major perk to social media’s ability, but harassment and creating what’s considered normal is a downfall.

Opinions are wide, discussing the pros and cons. Some hate the idea and others are for the legalization. The marijuana outbreak that started in the sixties with hippies made a comeback in 1996 when it became medicinally legal in California (PBS Frontline Marijuana Timeline 1995-2014). Later, in 2012 the recreational use of marijuana was legalized in Colorado and Oregon to citizens over the age of twenty-one. The way that thoughts were shared was through social media. Tobacco use has always been around sense it could be planted and grown. The age to smoke cigarettes and tobacco products is eighteen years old. Even though research has shown tobacco to be harmful, it is still a commonly used product.
