There was a lot of culture in the middle ages from the buildings such as the large and beautifully decorated cathedrals to laws but religion was a huge aspect of it. The Great Chain of Being, what is is you ask? It put everything and everyone in its own place such as plants, animals, humans, angels, then god being first at the top. The culture in the middle ages were revolved around their religion which was Christianity. The only religion accepted and allowed to be worshiped was Christianity (Alchin). Knights are a big part of why Christianity continued (King 37). Knights were very religious people and they believed that the church was the only way to get to heaven (MacDonald). Knights would worship and express their religion daily by praying, going to church, etc.

The church had its own taxes so they would tax everyone to help support the church and would of course accept gifts (Alchin). All of Western Europe was infact united by Christianity (Hinds 14), most likely because of what I have stated before that the only religion kingdoms accepted was Christianity (Alchin).
