My Weaknesses Of A Strong Writer

Improved Essays
Throughout my high school career I have always felt that I was a strong writer. This course has helped me become even stronger; pointing out my weaknesses and my strengths. Where I fail at some point I succeed in others. Where I rise to the occasion or ultimately fail, these papers represent both scenarios quite well.
The first paper to discuss is the argumentative paper. Titled simply The Modern Culture it was used to argue the point across that modern culture in today’s society can be, at times, beneficial. Some of the strengths are that I brought in aspects from several different sources, such as television, social media, and video games. While this was the first time I have ever written a paper quite like this I believe I did well. My weakness

This was one of the few essays that I understood and used templates. I hope to take that skill along with me as I move on to college. Another thing different about this paper is the use of references from the articles to the data bases the essay was filled with them. These skills are helpful later on in life when I need to give credit where credit is due.
The second piece is my most dreaded. The literary analysis, from the start of reading Hamlet
I could tell that this essay was going to be difficult. The writing process was even more dreadful, choosing a topic to write five pages on was just one of my problems. I couldn’t decide if my topic, of determining that our protagonist Hamlet was not truly going insane, was good enough.
Turned in late and disheveled this essay through me for a loop. After I powered through I realized my mistakes. In the reading process I understood that I should not read the same act over and over and that if I do not understand something look it up or move on. The writing process was even worse, after days of getting practically nowhere on the paper I finally got through. Some weaknesses are that the paper did not hold many references and that it really

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

I would like to discuss both the positive and negative aspects of the English curriculum this year, as well as the transition from middle school to high school as it pertains to my English experience. Throughout the year, there have been several texts that we have not only read, but spent a significant amount of time analyzing and discussing. One of the most effective units was on the novel Anthem by Ayn Rand. This novel explores the contrast between the philosophical concepts of individualism and collectivism.…

In High School, we were assigned to read Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. We had a month to cover the play ourselves, after which we’d be tested. An entire month to read a book, like, less than half an inch thick. A Speech tournament later, I had three full weeks to begin. A swim meet … it’s cool.…

Does Strength Training Build You Up or Pull You Down? What is an aspect of caring for our bodies which is often overlooked? This is one of the first questions I took into consideration when thinking about health and fitness, and the conclusion I ironically came to was strength training. The reason this is ironic is because, to some this might seem like an obvious part of fitness when it comes to trying to improve a person’s body overall, but what I quickly discover through research is that strength training is often overlooked.…

English Composition I taught me a lot about myself, including how to be a better college student, through the process of writing. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited about having to write argumentative papers. This is because I did not care enough about the assigned topics to have an opinion. But, I did learn a lot that I would not have known otherwise from having to research information about the topics I chose to write about. For example, in paper #2, I wrote about the niqab and how I believe that it is oppressive to women.…

Many scholars research Shakespeare’s plays to learn about him, his lifestyle, and the customs of that era. Hamlet, written by William Shakespeare in about 1599, is read and studied by nearly every student. Even though countless scholars have researched it, the play ultimately leaves them puzzled. Each person that has studied Hamlet has come up with a unique opinion and conclusion of the play. Although Graham Bradshaw and William Empson both have different views on the way Hamlet was written and the famous “Hamlet Problem”, William Empson has a more valid argument on the new play.…

When I was young I was never the best at reading even though my parents owned many books and magazines that they read on a daily basis. My mother enjoyed reading her gossip magazines that she would receive in the mail once a month and my father had a whole bookshelf full of history books. My parents would always encourage me to read the books I would check out at the school library to improve my reading and writing but that advice usually went in through one ear and out the other. The only books I would really attempt to read had to be humorous or horrifying, my favorites were the Goosebumps collection. I loved reading these books alone in my room where I couldn’t be sidetracked by all the commotion that went on in my house.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
