A question asked by many is how personality is developed. Is it through nature or nurture? Nature refers to a person 's biological inheritance, such as his or her genes. Nurture refers to an individual 's environment and social experiences. Understanding how one develops requires that we take into account nature and nurture. When examining how my personality was formed, I take into consideration both nature and nurture. However, I think that nurture has played a much larger role in shaping my personality. One must have experiences in life in which influence who they are and who they have become. Experiences shape an individual, influencing what one thinks may be right or wrong. Some parents may decide that the best option is to combine parenting styles. Each parenting style has to work for the parent and the child. Not every parenting style can be used for every child. Each child is different in their own way and parents must develop a sense to configure the best option. When living with my aunt for a portion of my life, she played the role of being my parent. She seemed to use a combination of parenting styles. She was an authoritative parent and a permissive parenting; it all depended on the situation. She did not want to control every move or every decision that I made, but she did not want me having all the freedom in the world. I had rules that I had to reside by, just as her own children did. I respect the parenting style that she chose to raise me with. Now back in the hands of my mom, she has chose to use the permissive parenting style. She believes that I am to learn from my own mistakes and decisions. She has also supported me in all the decisions I have made. She is there to pick me up when I fall and encourage me when I need guidance. I respect her choice of parenting more than ever. I believe that by her making this decision, I have learned and experienced more than what other children may have. I have learned to support myself and not rely so much on her.
