It has always been the responsibility of the faculty for curriculum development as they are experts in their respective disciplines and along with this they know the expectations from the students by the end of their programs in results to their knowledge and competencies (Billings & Halstead, 2016, p. 94). Faculty shortage is interwoven with students accepted into the nursing program which in turn results in nursing staff shortage. If there is not enough of faculty the number of students that can be enrolled in the program will become limited. The number of administrators and leaders will also be affected. In addition to this shortage the application of scientific knowledge in the clinical area is afflicted. Quality education and clinical practice is essential to meet these needs. So less number of faculties in institutions is a threat in this situation. “Nurse Educators and advanced practice nurses play a significant role in policy changes and curriculum development as well. So with their shortage in nursing, the overall performance of the nursing workforce may get diminished. According to Billings and Halstead (2012), “faculty shortage can lead to many innovative and creative solutions” (p. 101). This means faculties can think about different ways that they can change their roles, methods of teaching and ways to utilize their resources. “The retired faculties can contribute their ideas and knowledge in creating part time projects and thus can increase the productivity. This will also help in recruiting the nurses to their doctoral program at their younger age” (Billings & Halstead, 2012, p. 101). As a result of these creative ways nursing education curriculum can be formulated in a new model. Methods to Overcome Faculty Shortage in Curriculum
