Media shape the way people think because:media use pictures to influence readers; commercials influence people to buy things they don’t need, and headlines can be biased. Media use pictures to influence readers : today,we have access to news whenever we want, but with all the sources of news and information at our disposal, how informed are we? Some people would say that they are not affected by media. Let’s suppose you bought a newspaper and there was a picture of the president of the U.S with another woman, kissing in a hotel hallway. Now tell me, wouldn’t it shape the way you think about the ruler of your country? Some people say that if you don’t believe a certain story and/or you want to see the other side of it,then go look for another paper and make your own conclusion. It is the hook, what catches people’s attention. The problem is, headlines can be biased. For example, imagine you’re having a great day, sitting on your couch watching TV, and then , abruptly you mother yells your name. You see her crying and you ask why. And she shows a paper with the following headline: “Flight A135 Crashes in Mount Everest, 342 People are Dead”. And your mom tells you that this is the flight your grandma was on. Those headlines shape the way people think because people don’t know if their family members are alive or dead. At the moment the newspaper company chose to put the number of dead people who were into the plane crash as part of the headline, it was automatically changing and shaping the way people think. People
