Mayan numbers influenced society because they were sophisticated in what they could be used for, yet easy to understand. This meant that even uneducated people were able to fully understand select religious symbolism, trade, and commerce because they had the capability to add, subtract, and understand numbers. Special numbers, such as 13: the amount of original Mayan gods, 20: the amount of fingers and toes humans had, and 52: the number of years (18 groups of 20 days, or 13 groups of 20 days in a sacred year) in a bundle (similar to our century) had religious value to the Mayan people.
