Relevant Factors Community, district, and school. This school is located in an urban community in the southeastern United States. 68 percent of the students that go to this high school receive free or reduced lunch. With majority of the students receiving free and reduce lunch would suggest that the community is made up of low-income families and the unemployment rate is high. Many students come from single parent families and sometimes themselves have to take on the burden of helping with raising younger siblings and working themselves to provide for the household. This community is very diverse, and due to the financial hardship within the community there is racial and ethnic tensions. Community involvement and support for the school is …show more content…
I move from open classroom to open classroom using a cart to transport the materials I need to conduct class. I teach 10th grade with age’s ranges ranging from 15 to 16. My classroom is made up of 15 females and 17 males. The ethnic makeup of the class is very diverse. 25 of my students are fluent in English and 7 are English language learners. There are several students below 10th grade academic standards, and 5 students who are above the academic standard. We have some students with special needs. These needs range from traumatic brain injury, emotional and behavior issues, autism, and 3 students who are gifted and …show more content…
There are several students who fall short of the academic standard while there are some students who succeed the standard. Students will be grouped where one higher academic achievement student will be siting with a group of students who fall short of the standard. This will allow the successful student to mentor and help the other students become successful. The by product of grouping students this way is giving students leadership skills and learning to help others and having students learn good work habits needed in the classroom from their successful
