Trout is easily the best defensive player in the game and easily blows away all other outfielders. As his strong point in the game Mike, in all honesty, shows everyone how it’s done. Trout has an insane fielding percentage of .993, that being said he makes a play on a ball hit in his general vicinity about 99.3% of the time whereas the league average is about .980 (MLB.com). Now one might ask does one percent or 60 point on an OBP or a batting average really matter? Yes it really does! Baseball is unlike any other sport with the average game ending in a win or loss by just 1 or 2 runs, every little statistical point matters. Baseball is not like football where if you are down by one or two scores all it takes is a touchdown to tie it up, no, for baseball that means you have to hit a 5 inch diameter ball coming on average of 85-95 mph, some curving some rising, and you need to put it in play four times to score a run or hit that hard ball 350 feet over the fence. It is truly mind boggling how anyone is able to hit the ball let alone hit 397 home runs and hit the ball and be safe over 30% of the time. Trout runs faster and more efficient than anyone else in the game having only 11 errors in his MLB career!
