Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a non-inflammatory condition, while inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) causes chronic swelling (or inflammation). Unlike IBD, IBS isn’t classified as a true disease. It’s known as a “functional disorder,” which means its symptoms don’t have an identifiable cause. Both conditions can lead to abdominal pain, constipation, or urgent bowel movements, but IBD can also cause extreme fatigue or rectal bleeding.
When it comes to the world of gastrointestinal diseases, you may hear a lot of acronyms such as IBD and IBS.
