Infidelity And Dishonesty In Othello

My creative piece is two mirrors placed back to back. In the mirrors are the two worlds that Othello see throughout the play; innocent and guilty. The blue mirror is innocent, displaying a white dress, medal, handkerchief, and sword and shield. The white dress represents Othello’s wife, Desdemona and her purity. He views her as an angel that can do nothing wrong, a loving and trusting girl who, against her father’s beliefs, fell in love with the man. This picture is placed in the middle of all the others because even though Othello may not know, Desdemona is the centre of his world. His decisions revolve around her and she has a control over him that can make him do anything she wants. The medal symbolizes honour and courage, two things Othello …show more content…
The colour of the dress represents infidelity and dishonesty. The two faced Iago shows how he tried to manipulate all the people around him. Acting like “Honest Iago” to their faces, and then using his words to manipulate them. He plants ideas in people’s heads and lets them form their own theories. For example he made Othello think that Desdemona gave her handkerchief to Cassio, and was having an affair with him. This leads to the third picture, the knife. In the end of the play, Othello decides that the only way to protect his honour is to kill his “unfaithful” wife Desdemona. Though he does not stab her, instead choosing a more peaceful death such as asphyxiation, so as to preserve her innocent aura. The picture displays a fist holding a knife, symbolizing the anger that Othello had towards his wife, but he was too honourable to make her suffer in death. The justice system picture represents how Othello decided to act as judge, jury, and executioner. As soon as he found out there was even the slightest chance that Desdemona was cheating on him, he decided that she had to die. There was no evidence to support Iago’s claims, but Othello decided to just go ahead and kill her
