A popular drug called clomiphene citrate (Clomid) is a common fertility drug women have been using for over forty years. Clomid is prescribed to women who are not ovulating normally (WebMD, 2017). Climid is a proved medication to help women with fertility problems. Clomid releases hormones such as follicle-stimulating hormones and luteinizing hormones in order for the female human body to begin producing fertile eggs once more (WebMD, 2017). Clomid provides women with a high chance of restoring fertility, and allowing the women to become pregnant . Clomiphene citrate has a sixty to eighty percent change of initiating ovulation with women again. Out of the sixty to eighty percent of women who began ovulating, fifty percent of them are likely to become with child after three ovulating cycles (WebMD, …show more content…
Scientists have 3-D printed prosthetic mouse ovaries in hopes of restoring fertility to infertile mice. The experiment successfully restored fertility to the mice, which later conceived several healthy mouse pups. Scientists begin the procedure by removing the mouse’s ovary from the mouse. They replace the original ovary with a bioprosthetic ovary made out of 3-D printed scaffolds, which hold immature eggs (Science Daily, 2017). The procedure was successful in resuming ovulation, increasing hormone production, and restoring fertility in mice. While experiments have yet to be conducted on human subjects, the process is the same and predicted to be a success. The experiment is geared towards women whose cancer treatments impaired their production of hormones. Based on research conducted at the Women's Health Research Institute at Feinberg and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, 3-D printed bioprosthetic ovaries proved to have be durable and have a long-term life efficiency (Science Daily,
