There comes a time in most People’s lives where they want to settle down and start a family. With dreams of the perfect partner lying next to you in bed and the sound of little feet running down the hallway waking you up in the morning. The vision becomes a reality for many couples who want to start families, but what about the couples who try and try but to no avail have no luck in conceiving. Imagine this, here you are with the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with, and you want to start a family. For months, even years you try to conceive but you’re having no luck, and many of the people around you are pregnant or have children. In the UK the numbers are a whopping one in six couples have a hard time conceiving. (Leonard) The United States numbers are sitting at one in six as well. (Pittman) In India forty-five percent of couples have difficulties conceiving. (Ganeshan) Canada’s infertility rates, have doubled sense 1992. (Kirkey) As recorded by the National Survey of Family Growth, CDC, one in eight couples worldwide have complications conceiving. With numbers as these it can be considered that infertility is now an epidemic. With statistics, as high as these scientists and doctors now face the tough question, what is causing the rise in infertility? Much research is being done into environmental causes of infertility. Self-induced factors come into play as well, marijuana, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and obesity. Some medications and steroids are also the cause of infertility. A few sexually transmitted diseases can also cause infertility. Age, especially for woman is an important factor in fertility. Added weight on men and raise the temperature of the testicles. When the internal temperature of the testicles rise the quality of sperm decreases. It is recommended for men trying to conceive to be a healthy weight and to wear loose fitting underwear, such as boxers. This will keep the testicles cool enough for optimal sperm quality. For women added weight around the abdominal area puts extra stress on the reproductive organs.
