However, infatuation has the tendency to develop into true love over time. The texts Romeo and Juliet, “Why a Foolish marriage vow ”and“ What happens in our brains when we’re in love,” analyze this by providing specific examples. She fits within the love map… And all of a sudden, your brain starts flying through this very subjective list of criteria… And if that person makes the cut….” (Fisher 1-2) “She fits within the love map,” means that the girl’s appearance fits into the man’s criteria list. Infatuation is emphasized here because the man merely had a glimpse of the girl, and he is in love with her. This demonstrates love at first sight. However, when the man starts going through the “list of criteria” and gets aquantained with the girl, true love can evolve from infatuation because now he understands her personality, as well as her facial appearance. Time will strengthen the relationship because over time they will establish a bond together. The poem, “Why should a foolish marriage vow,” agrees with this because it says, “If I have pleasures for a friend, And further love in store.” (Dryden 9-10) Over time, “pleasures” or infatuation can develop into true love.
