At times I feel, with all the crime that is going on in today’s society, I sometimes perceive my race as negative, depending upon were you were raised, has a lot to do with your upbringing and how black people cannot seem to escape crime. Unfortunately, an amount of black families was brought up in poverty, and the socioeconomic status was low at the time. In watching the presentation, I also learned that the African American community wasn’t afforded a lot of the opportunities as the whites, so my parents probably didn’t have an opportunity to even move up the ladder if they even wanted to, also Black wealth was always frowned upon or thought of as a poor culture to the fact that, we were always separated from even wanted to do better in our lives, as well as being able to provide a decent life for our families. I feel this is a similar experience that I am experiencing in the workplace, that because of my skin color, there have been opportunities that were not afforded to me, as well as higher positions that I considered myself to be qualified for, but were not given to me because of my ethnic background.
