Inequality In The United States

There is a problem in society that everyone must come to terms with. Inequality. Inequality is a problem that can be solved in two main ways using government. The government can give everyone equal opportunity, or they can give everyone equal reward. One major inequality that is happening in society today is inequality in education, and solving this inequality is hard, maybe even impossible, because even if everyone was given the same opportunity to go to a good school, some wouldn’t work as hard and then would be less educated then someone who worked hard. It also wouldn’t work by giving everyone the same degree, because some people would deserve it and others wouldn’t. Inequality in education is an inequality that is unfair, and if …show more content…
Everyone should have an equal opportunity to go to a college. The way the government can do this is to subsidize or even pay for a person who cannot pay for themselves to go to college. A program like that is already put in place, and is the FAFSA, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. People who apply for this can receive help from the government in order to go to school. Some people would say that this isn’t fair, because the government gives more money to kids who have less money, and gives less money to kids who are more able to pay for college. While they are correct when they say that the government helping out the people who aren’t as well off is unfair because those kids are getting more money. What makes this system fair is that everyone is getting an equal chance to go to a college and get a higher …show more content…
Government intervention to try and make colleges equal will not nor will ever work. In order to make all colleges equal you would have to deprive a lot of people from going to a college that is best for them. Smarter people going to a lesser school would find it too easy and wouldn’t learn, and less intelligent people going to a school they can’t handle would find it to be too much of a load put on their shoulders and they wouldn’t be able to do it. It wouldn’t work also because of the teachers. The same person cannot teach the exact same way as another teacher, it will not work because teachers are different. This will cause more inequality because if two teachers teaching the exact same thing teach it to a student, the student might understand it from one but not the

I believe this gap needs to be shrunk as much as possible in order to give all students an equal educational experience. Anyon points out how unfairly students in working class schools can be treated and how well affluent professional schools are established. If we have the ability to close this gap then this will bring new perspectives into all schools. Everyone deserves the chance to build their future the way they see it. The benefits of equality would be twofold, as there would be more people with the ability to work their way up the social ladder, and bringing in revenue for local and nation governments. The students at the University of Michigan may or may not have a case against affirmative action that it is based on race, but the real problem with affirmative action is that it is not based on socioeconomic…

Education For Everyone Education is something that everyone should be able to have. Knowledge is not something that should be for sale. Everyone should be able to have equal opportunity. This is why there should be no cost for receiving a college education. The general argument made by Carol Roth in the article “Free Community College Isn’t Free...and it’s a Bad Idea” is that saying that college will be free when it really won’t, and it will cause more problems and evidently not solve any current problems.…

I do, however, consider us all equal regarding financial aid. I believe we are all in the same boat; fighting to make a better life for ourselves and to benefit to society. Whether our parents are rich or poor, or we are a minority or majority, we are all just kids on our own. We all have our struggles and our successes. We all have the same goal, and are smart and capable to do anything we set our minds to.…

In the Washington Post article, the author concludes that sending more people to college is a modest solution to addressing income inequality “compared to the overall level of inequality in the economy as a whole”. However, the article provides little evidence to support that sending more people to college is not a solution to bridging the gap between the rich and poor. Second, the writer does not seem to evaluate alternative solutions that would be more effective in addressing this ongoing concern of income inequality. The writer assumes, without citing specific evidence, that we cannot solve income inequality by sending people to college.…

Free tuition and no debt for students attending higher education within the United States seems like a terrific proposal, however, there are several hidden small prints that may result in certain disadvantages for Americans. Many colleges across the country already offer student loans and other scholarships for low-income families in order to provide accessible education. Moreover, if this plan turns into an official policy, expenses for federal and local governments will increase up to $75 billion annually, only in public universities and colleges. As a result of such expenditures, nationwide increases in taxes would be significantly reflected and Wall Street will be the central target. According to Michael Hiltzik, a reporter for Los Angeles Times in the article “How free college tuition would become a giveaway to the rich” he argues that,…

Economic Status Should Not Limit One 's Education It is not fair that some of the smartest kids in the United States go to community college instead of Harvard because they do not have the finances to support their academic intelligence. Eighty three percent of students in the United States say they cannot afford a college education, but a college education has become necessary in most jobs. Even community college costs two thousand a year, for families who can 't put food on the table that is a lot of money. Discrimination based on race and ethnicity is not tolerated in the United States, so why is economic discrimination?…
