Inequality and social class are examples of conflicts that help develop the thematic topic in many ways. The stories “The Stolen Party” by Liliana Heker and “Borders” by Denice Frohman both show how inequality develops the story and the poem. The theme and quotes help the story and the poem develop. In “The Stolen Party”, Rosaura and her mother are faced with poverty and inequality, and she is invited to her friend’s party and is teased by her “friend’s cousin because of her social class. She ignores the people and is rewarded at the end of her hard work. In “Borders”, Ana Maria and her relatives immigrate to America through hard work. She begins to go to school and is bullied by some boys, but that never stopped her from getting into college …show more content…
“The Stolen Party” is about Rosaura and her mom. Her mom needs to be a maid to help them overcome their poverty. One time, Her mom as a maid goes to a rich person’s house and Rosaura becomes friends with their daughter Luciana, doing homework together. Rosaura is invited to the house for Luciana’s birthday, but her mom insisted not to go. She still goes and is teased by Luciana’s cousins when she is seen. At the end of the story, she is admired by each person and rewarded. This story shows at first, Rosaura is faced with inequality from Luciana’s cousins because they knew all of Luciana’s friends but not Rosaura. In “Borders”, the theme is there are some borders you can’t cross by foot. In “The Stolen Party”, the theme is to never look at a person from the outside, but from the inside. The themes are the story and the poem are similar because both characters are faced with discrimination because of their social class.
