In order to flee British occupation, many Irish immigrants arrived to make a better life for themselves in America, with the hope of being able to experience the so called “freedom” of the new world. At the time, many Americans did not take too kindly to the Irish and accused them of stealing jobs and being “sloppy drunks”. The argument sounds all too familiar, Hispanics in the 21st century are often times blamed by Americans for stealing jobs and causing crime rates to increase.
